The Government of Yemen called on the United Nations and its Special Envoy Hans Grundberg to take serious and real action to contain the ongoing and intensifying violations of the truce by the Houthis from the first moments of its entry into force.
The official Yemeni news agency (Saba) quoted an official government source as saying: “The blatant Houthi attacks escalated, culminating in drone strikes against the Taiz Security Department yesterday, injuring 10 people, including civilians, and causing property damage and panic among children and families who were killed.” She is celebrating Eid al-Fitr in a nearby park.”
The source stressed that repeated violations of the UN truce by the Houthis have put the United Nations and the international community on a real test of seriousness in putting pressure on the Houthi militia to respond to peace efforts.
He pointed out that the continuation of Houthi terrorist attacks and their failure to respect the United Nations-sponsored humanitarian truce from the first moments of its entry into force, as well as their refusal to fulfill existing obligations under it, the main one of which lifts the siege of Taiz, represent the approach and behavior militias and their supporters in undermining all possibilities for peace and a political solution to the Yemeni crisis.
The government source also stressed the need to immediately lift the siege of Taiz province in accordance with the terms of the truce.
