The World of Warcraft Community Successfully Trolls an AI Bot
Recently, a group of World of Warcraft enthusiasts on Reddit successfully trolled the living daylights out of an artificial intelligence bot that scrapes content and converts it into articles — that are being scraped by an artificial intelligence bot and turned into articles.
An Ingenious Prank on the AI Bot
One person on the World of Warcraft subreddit wrote a message in a particular fashion, appealing for some large bot-operated news websites to produce an article about this.’ It related to the story of the first appearance of the character, “Glorbo,” who had been mentioned in World of Warcraft mythology “since 1994.” It was all a total and utter hoax, of course, but the AI bot bought into the whole thing without questioning a single thing.
Glorbo Is On His Way, But You’re Going to Need the Klikclac!
on Reddit was filled with pointless and illogical facts and pieces, which referenced different things and feelings while also developing Glorbo’s history. It took an artificial intelligence bot a little while to pick up on that post, and once it did, it took everything at face value. It was an excellent piece of writing, provided that you enjoy having a good laugh at the expense of a helpless robot.
I mean, the article (which was generated by AI) failed to recognize the most obvious dig, which was:
Reddit user kaefer_kriegerin expresses their excitement:’ If I’m being completely honest, the addition of this new feature has made my day. I would like some large news websites that are managed by bots to post an article about this. This view is shared by many other players in the comments, all of whom are looking forward with great excitement to the alterations that Glorbo will make to the game.
The BBC picked up this hoax, which promptly pointed out that there was no specific confirmation that a bot was being used to generate the story. Despite this, the BBC continued to spread the fake. Despite this, the data points toward it being the most likely explanation. For example, the ‘writer’ on the site who penned the piece that was subsequently removed publishes dozens of items daily. They are all constructed using the exact same format and aesthetic.
The Road Ahead
It’s getting better, but there are still a lot of problems with it.
