974 Stadium (fully removable stadium) Director Engineer Mohamed Al-Atwan explained that 974 Stadium embodies the sustainability and heritage concepts that were integral to Qatar’s promise to the world when it won the right to host the World Cup, noting that this stadium is one of the eight host stadiums for the Qatar 2022™ World Cup, as the decision was made to host seven matches in the tournament.
Regarding the details of this World Cup facility, engineer Al-Atwan stated that the stadium was built from shipping containers and recycled steel blocks and is the first completely dismantled stadium in the history of the World Cup as it was designed in a flexible way that allows for disassembly it and capitalize on parts of it after the curtain falls on tournament competition.
He drew attention to the reason why the stadium is called by this name, that is, the number 974, since it represents the number of shipping containers used in its construction, in addition, this number 974 is the international dialing code of the state of Qatar, in relation to communication and the country’s interaction with its regional and international environment, as well as its historical connection, the world through the waters of the Persian Gulf, overlooking the World Cup stadium.
Al-Atwan described the 974 Stadium as an innovative model that takes sustainability into account in its construction, a unique step towards the development of sports projects because it was built from reused and recycled building elements, as well as due to its innovative design and distinctive features. the location of the stadium does not require the cooling technology used in other World Cup stadiums.
974 Stadium is located 4 km from the center of Doha, close to Hamad International Airport and Doha Port, and due to its unique location, it is the first sports facility to receive fans arriving in Qatar through the airport and port, making it Qatar’s gateway to host the world with sea views and breathtaking views of the waters of the Persian Gulf.
The stadium can be easily reached by the Doha Metro via Ras Bu Aboud station on the Golden Line, which is 800 meters from the stadium.
Engineer Muhammad Al-Atwan stated that the shipping containers used in the construction of this stadium represent a core element of the sustainability process as they are easy to transport and the iron structure is made from recycled and reusable steel and is planned for other uses after completion of championship competitions, such as building another stadium of the same capacity, whether in Qatar or elsewhere, or reusing its components in the construction of other sports or non-sports venues, or using part of it for other purposes such as delivery or construction other objects in the future.
Last November, Stadium 974 was announced ready to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with a capacity of 40,000 fans.
