The American newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” reported that Washington has decided to “punish” China if it engages in any activity with Russia that falls under Western sanctions.
The newspaper noted that US officials said the sanctions and the UN discussions were partly aimed at distracting Beijing from Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
Noting that the US wants to distance China from its close partnership with Russia, Washington officials said that one of the steps is to make Beijing suffer because of Russia’s military intervention.
They added that Russia’s large-scale attack on Ukraine presents an opportunity to force China to choose between siding with Russia or maintaining valuable economic relations with Europe, the United States and other parts of the world.
