At least 18 people have died as a result of heavy rains in Fars province in southern Iran, state television reported on Saturday.
“Yesterday around 17:00 (12:30 GMT) in the cities of Ige and Rodbal in the central part of Istakhban, it rained heavily, resulting in heavy rains,” the IRNA news agency quoted the governor of the Istakhban district, Yousef, as saying. Carker, as they say.
“As a result, 18 bodies were recovered in the Istakhban districts, 13 of them were identified,” he added.
He indicated that 6 people are still missing and that “55 rescue teams are involved in the rescue work.”
Earlier, IRNA quoted the director general of the provincial crisis department, Khalil Abdullahi, who confirmed the death of 15 people and the loss of 8 people.
Videos released by Iranian news agencies show muddy streams along the Rodbal River being swept away by several white cars.
“A number of local residents and visitors (from other areas) who were walking along the river or along its course were surprised by the rise in water levels,” Karker said.
The climate in southern and central Iran is mostly dry, but flooding in these areas occurred in several stages.
