The United States Warns of Israeli Settlement Expansion in the West Bank
The United States of America has warned of an expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, following reports of the intention of Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government to push ahead with plans to build new settlements. John Kirby, National Security Council at the White House, made the announcement on Monday.
No Confirmation of Plans
Kirby did not confirm whether the Israeli government has informed the Joe Biden administration of plans to announce settlement expansion, but said US policy is consistent in opposing any unilateral decision to advance Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
US Concerns
“We have long expressed concern about additional settlements in the West Bank and do not want actions to be taken that would significantly complicate a two-state solution,” Kirby said.
