Yesterday, the Saudi Arabian University Sports Federation opened its 13th sports season for male students and 3rd for female students under the auspices of Education Minister Yousef Al Bunyan.
The opening ceremony took place at the King Saud University in Riyadh, where the first men’s taekwondo and women’s karate championships of the season were held, and lasts 3 days.
The ceremony included various segments from Saudi Universities, followed by a visual presentation by the Saudi Arabian Universities Sports Federation about the new sports season in the presence of the federation’s president, Dr. Khaled Al-Museini, Dean of Student Affairs at King. University of Saud, Dr. Ali Al-Dalbahi, Dr. Ali Masmali, Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Development, and Secretary General of the Federation, Dr. Abdulela Al-Silvi.
In the competitions of the first day of the taekwondo championship among students, a sharp struggle unfolded between the participants in the qualifying competitions in the weight categories (58 – 68 – 80 – +87) kg, where the player Haider Al-Mushrif from Imam Abdul Rahman bin Faisal University competed. finished third in 58kg and player Mohammed Al-Shuwayreh from King Saud University came in third, repeating the same weight and in 68kg Malik Al-Matrafi from Umm Al-Qura University. ranked third, repeated, and player Musa Kondi from Islamic University ranked third, repeated, and in the 80 kg weight, player Abdullah Bahnashel from King Abdulaziz University ranked third. Player Omar Al-Khalidi from Umm Al Qura University ranked third, and player Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah of King Saud University came in third at +87kg thanks to the finals to be held tomorrow at the end of the tournament.
The King Saud University Women’s Gym hosted a karate championship with (42) female students representing (10) universities and will continue until tomorrow.
The President of the Saudi Arabian Universities Sports Federation, Prof. Dr. Khaled bin Saleh Al Muzaini, confirmed that the launch of the new sports season comes amid great optimism from union staff and those in charge of university sports, increasing the number of tournaments to 30, in including 18 for male students and 12 for female students, noting that the union brings together 9 intercollegiate health tournaments for the first time, including 6 health tournaments and 3 open tournaments in three different regions.
He said, “The thirteenth season is a challenging season for increasing participation in sports events and the indicators of the great support you find in college sports are starting to pay off,” underscoring the Saudi University Sports Federation’s determination to make university sports the primary means of supporting national sports. thanks to the role played by universities and colleges in achieving this increase. In terms of the number of participants within universities through union competitions, he praised all deans of student affairs at universities for their support and encouraged male and female students to participate in various union programs and competitions.
For his part, Dr. Abdullah Al-Silvi, Secretary General of the Saudi Arabia University Sports Federation, confirmed that the federation has prepared for the new season since the end of the previous season.
He said: “Working committees (competitions, qualifying, technical, refereeing and their subsidiary committees) have been formed and the use of judges for championships has been addressed to sports federations with the aim of making the thirteenth season successful, in addition to the Federation. secretariat conducting training courses and educational lectures for staff of student deans of public, private and private universities.
