A senior Tamaulipas official told Reuters there were at least one “collateral” fatality due to violence.
The shooting followed the arrest of Juan Gerardo Trevino, or “El Huevo”, on Sunday, Mexico government noted in A declaration.
Trevin is facing a US extradition order for drug trafficking and money launderingas well as state-level charges for murderterrorism, extortion and criminal association, he added.
He is also an American citizen, a Mexican government official told Reuters. Trevin is on a list of most of the US Border Patrol wanted criminals, according to media reports.
The Mexican statement named Trevino as leader of the cartel of the northeast, a branch of the Zetas gang, as well as the boss of the hitman group “Tropas del Infierno” (“Hell’s Troops”).
