The Truth About Ubisoft’s Account Deletion Policy
Imagine for a moment that you have lately participated in any of the social activities associated with the gaming community. If this is the case, you have probably already come across a mention of the “account deletion policy” that Ubisoft has. People were under the impression that Ubisoft would delete their accounts after thirty days of inactivity or longer, which caused a fragment of news to spread like wildfire.
That, however, was different from the situation, as we explained in the piece that we wrote that reported the news. However, there was a lot of confusion around the situation, and it needed a statement from Ubisoft to clear up the account deletion scandal that – for a few days – rocked the gaming world. Ubisoft’s statement was required to clear up the scandal.
Ubisoft’s Clarification
According to a report by IGN, Ubisoft has publicly clarified what it does with old accounts that are no longer used and accounts that have become obsolete. The company emphasized that it will not erase accounts that contain games that have been purchased associated with them, which is the single most crucial consideration at play here. It was also mentioned that when deciding whether or not to issue a closure notice, it considers the following factors:
-
Gaming activity:
What’s the gaming activity of the account since its creation?
-
Inactivity period:
How long has the account been inactive across Ubisoft’s ecosystem?
-
Active subscription:
Is there an active subscription tied to the account?
In addition, it was emphasized that Ubisoft has never erased an account that has been dormant for a period shorter than four years. Even then, a 30-day notice of closure was sent out, and the account owner was advised that the termination was drawing near.
The Truth Unveiled
To summarize, Ubisoft will not delete your games, it will not terminate your account if you have a subscription or purchases associated with it, and you will need to have not even sniffed that account for at least four years to be eligible for deletion. Ubisoft will not destroy your games. Ubisoft will not close your account.
