The UN Commission of Inquiry into Ukraine confirmed on Friday that “war crimes” had been committed in the country since the Russian invasion in late February.
“Based on the evidence collected by the commission, it concluded that war crimes had been committed in Ukraine,” said commission chairman Eric Mose in his first oral report, citing Russian bombing of residential areas, numerous executions, torture, and ill-treatment. treatment and sexual abuse.
“We were amazed at the number of executions in the areas we visited. The commission is currently investigating these deaths in 16 cities and locations. We have received credible reports of many other executions that we are currently documenting,” Moza said.
All of the bodies found showed obvious signs of execution, such as handcuffs behind their backs, bullet wounds to the head, or decapitation.
Mose also condemned Russian bombing of residential areas.
He stated that witnesses gave intersecting testimonies about the ill-treatment and torture they were subjected to during their illegal detention.
Some of the victims said that after being detained by Russian troops in Ukraine, they were transferred to Russia, where they were held in prisons for weeks.
