The Ukrainian presidency announced that the authorities will call 14,000 reservists to participate in military exercises amid tensions with Russia.
“14,200 military reserves will be called up to participate in exercises in certain regions and districts,” Yury Galushkin, commander of the “Ukrainian Defense Forces”, said in a statement from the country’s presidential office.
Galushkin explained that the exercise plan provides for the organization of the first activities within its framework on the territory of the Donbass region, including Mariupal, Severodonetsk and Kramatorsk.
Yuri Maksimov, the commander of the forces formation center in the capital Kiev, said that soldiers from the reserve forces to be called could be sent to the front to fulfill military duties.
On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he has issued a decree calling army reserves “in a special stage”.
Addressing the Ukrainian people, Zelensky said, “There is no need for general alarm so far. We need to quickly reinforce the strength of the Ukrainian army and other military formations.”
