British Deputy Secretary of Defense David Williams announced that in the background of the Ukraine crisis, the UK does not plan to increase the number of nuclear warheads offered to it.
And speaking before the Institute of State Administration in London on Thursday, the British deputy minister said, “I don’t think we plan to increase the arsenal urgently. We will continue to monitor this.” said.
Williams added that the crisis in Ukraine “confirms Britain’s role as a nuclear state”.
It is noteworthy that the British authorities announced in March last year that they are planning to increase the country’s nuclear capacity by about 40% and increase the number of nuclear warheads to 260.
The UK’s review of security, defense and foreign policy issues through to 2030 confirms that the government has taken this step in response to rising risks from some countries and the need to strengthen London’s defense capabilities.
