The UK Met Office today declared a national emergency following a red alert, with temperatures expected to hit 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) on Monday and Tuesday.
The warning issued by the British Met Office covers areas such as London, Manchester and York and there may be some restrictions on rail lines, some schools will close early and some hospital appointments will be cancelled.
In addition to the Met Office’s warning, the UK’s Health Safety Authority has issued the highest alert level of four for health and care facilities, warning of sickness and death in healthy people.
