In a major technological breakthrough, Emre Bulat, a simulation engineer at Samsun University Flight Academy, has developed a low-cost flight simulator that can save thousands of U.S. dollars. Boulat said that the new simulator it designed would like cost only $8,440 (120,000 TL), instead of approximately $281,000 (4 millions of TL) paid for imported simulators.
A flight simulator is any electronic or mechanical device system for former pilots and crew members of aircraft and spacecraft by simulating flight conditions.
The simulator of a Cessna 172 Skyhawk will serve student pilots taking advanced courses in the Academy. Bulat said he decided to design the simulator when he saw that students had to pay by the hour for use a certified imported simulator. The engineer proposes the simulator for free for students. He said that the university provided him with the means to design the simulator, which is used by students in instrument flight phase in their training. He added he consulted the students during design process and tried to integrate their ideas according to on their comments, in particular on ergonomics features of the simulator. “The simulator has everything from scenarios of birds hitting the plane at a thunderbolt. This took six month to design that,” he told Anadolu Agency (AA) on Friday.
He says Turkey is only locally made simulator was produced by leading defense the Havelsan company and flight schools generally count on simulators imported from various countries, including Russia and France. “What our simulator lacks compared to imported models is only the option for record the flight hours,” he added.
