Former US President Donald Trump posted on Facebook and YouTube for the first time since his major social media accounts were suspended in 2021 due to the storming of the Capitol.
“I’m back!” Trump wrote on Facebook on Friday, accompanying the post with a video clip of his speech after winning the 2016 US presidential election.
Trump has over 34 million followers on Facebook and 2.6 million on YouTube.
Two of Trump’s accounts were suspended on January 6, 2021, after his supporters stormed the Capitol building in Washington on a day when the results of the 2020 presidential election were expected to be confirmed, which Trump lost and refused to acknowledge his loss.
The first post on Trump’s Facebook page comes two months after the site announced it was lifting restrictions on his account.
Amid the events of January 2021, Trump’s Twitter account was also frozen. Last November, new Twitter owner Elon Musk announced the removal of restrictions on the account, but Trump has yet to return to posting on the site, which has 87 million followers.
