The Kingdom participates in the countries of the year in the celebration of the International Day of the Seafarer, established by the International Maritime Organization “IMO” on June 25 of each year to raise interest in seafarers and concern for their safety as a main pillar in the operation of ships and raise awareness of the application of safety and security standards at sea to ensure safe maritime navigation.
The Kingdom has been successful in educating and educating Saudi youth in ship management and maintenance, as well as its adherence to many international conventions and treaties relating to safety, which is indicative of its commitment to caring for and keeping seafarers safe.
The King Abdulaziz University College of Maritime Studies is the only one in the Kingdom that awards bachelor’s degrees and international and professional maritime certificates, allowing them to work aboard “high seas” ships that sail the seas and oceans carrying strategic cargo. and support for the international economy and trade.
The College also works to prepare Saudi youth for scientific, academic and professional training in accordance with the curriculum, which applies the standards of the International Maritime Organization, stipulated in the international STCW treaty and its amendments, for the qualification, education and training of seafarers, including the arts. swimming. safe navigation, operation and maintenance, fundamentals of safety, maritime security, safety of life and property, and environmental protection; Graduate with an international academic and professional certificate as a second naval officer in maritime navigation, an academic bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, and an international certificate of professional qualification as a third marine engineer.
The college issues safety course certificates of all kinds, valid for five years. The holder cannot work on board ships without them and practice their special skills on board ships during the full year training phase on board ships at a high level. It also communicates with its alumni either to obtain additional specialized courses to keep them up to date with the latest developments in the field of maritime transport, or to update course certificates or professional certificates.
The College communicates with its alumni through the College Alumni Division to provide support and advice and acts as a liaison between them and maritime shipping companies to find the best employment opportunities for them in a promising area for residents of the country.
