Three people were killed and 11 wounded after several militants opened fire on a crowd on a crowded street in the US city of Philadelphia, police said yesterday.
Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace stated that two men and a woman were killed, noting that security officials who rushed to respond to the incident “noted that several people had opened fire on the crowd.”
“You can imagine hundreds of people having fun on South Street like they do every weekend when the shooting started,” he added.
He indicated that police had shot dead one of the attackers, but it was not known if he had been wounded, and local media reported that authorities had not yet arrested anyone.
Pace said two handguns were found at the scene and that police would have to wait until the morning to see CCTV footage from the businesses, which were closed Saturday night.
Commenting on the investigation, Pace spoke of “many questions that remain unanswered.”
