Threads, what is it?
Threads is described as a text chat app where communities can get together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’s trending tomorrow. Whether you’re interested in a particular topic, you can follow and connect directly with your favorite authors and other people who enjoy the same things. You can also create your own loyal community to share your ideas, opinions, and creativity with the world. That’s the marketing promise for you. Specifically, the app allows users to log in with their Instagram ID, find the accounts they follow on Instagram in the new app, and post in an interface similar to that of Twitter, Mastodon, Bluesky, or any other app.
At a company meeting last month, Meta executives clarified that Threads will integrate Mastodon’s decentralized social media protocol called ActivityPub. This announcement sparked discussions about possible Mark Zuckerberg versus Elon Musk.
Perfect Time
This new arrival comes when another joke by Elon Musk angered Twitter users. The cruel CEO decided to limit access to the social network to all users, including paying subscribers (to a lesser extent). At the same time, Twitter began making big changes to TweetDeck, a tool used by many journalists and social media professionals, shortly after the app started having problems. TweetDeck should be a paid feature by August. Many Twitter users have tried to reach out to the new Bluesky social network from the founder of Twitter. But due to high demand, the company suspended new listings for more than a day to address traffic issues. Other users have also considered other alternatives. In France, Mastodon has temporarily established itself as the best haven for frustrated Twitter users. But this decentralized network struggles to convince over time. So the emergence of Threads could be a whiff of cool air for those looking for an alternative to Twitter. Who would have thought that it would take so long to wait for a new social network copy made by Meta?
