Themes: Expanding to Web Browsers
Themes are still limited to in-app use on Android and iOS for the Threads mobile platform. However, a version for web browsers is currently under development. According to the Wall Street Journal, this web version may be launched as early as this week. This expansion to web browsers is a significant step for Threads, as it currently lacks the ability to be accessed through a browser. The development of the web version was confirmed by Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, the platform to which Threads is associated. Mosseri stated that they have been using the first version of the web version internally for a week or two, but there is still work to be done before it can be made available to the public. While plans are still subject to change, the Wall Street Journal reports that the web version of Threads may be introduced in the near future.
Big News for Threads
This potential addition of a web version for Threads is considered a significant development, allowing the platform to compete more effectively with its main competitor, X (formerly Twitter), which already offers browser accessibility. The Wall Street Journal also highlights that the ability to use Threads in web browsers is one of the most requested features by users. Another highly anticipated feature is the ability to interact with users from other decentralized social networks. Threads aims to support the Activity Pub protocol, utilized by platforms like Mastodon, which sets it apart from X’s closed ecosystem. Additionally, Threads is expected to launch in Europe, although the release has been delayed to ensure compliance with new regulations for online platforms in the European Union.
Topics: Continued Improvements
Threads has been steadily improving since its initial launch. Recently, Meta introduced several small new features to enhance the user experience. These include the ability to share posts on Instagram, view all post likes, sort accounts, and add alt text to images. Despite a successful start with over 100 million registrations within five days, Threads must now focus on retaining these users and ensuring their continued engagement with the platform. Unfortunately, some indicators suggest that certain users have already decreased their usage frequency.
