In the midst of a pandemic, social media has become a real lifeline for many families. So services like Messenger, WhatsApp, Facebook, or even Instagram have allowed many of us to exchange ideas and keep our spirits high, while face-to-face meetings have been discouraged or even officially banned.
Blocking family members is very common on Facebook.
However, the coexistence of family relationships in the network is not necessarily always obvious. This is exactly what follows from a survey conducted by the site time2play. To see this more clearly, analysts polled 2,040 Americans to find out what might motivate internet users to blog their family member on Facebook or Instagram. On Facebook, on immediately notes that 46.4% of respondents are ready to ban a loved one who posts content that they consider toxic, hateful or problematic. Similarly, 43.5% are willing to end their online relationship with a family member who has shared false information. Knowing the vague and subjective side of this concept, this can clearly provoke heated discussions. Finally, the third main reason for the breakup of a family on Facebook is the publication of too many posts that are considered political (41.4%). Here again there is logic, and these exchanges can also create problems during meetings in face in face. On Instagram, the situation is completely different. 62.1% of users block family members to keep their privacy. 21.1% want to avoid comments that are too embarrassing, and 17.5% avoid content that is toxic and too problematic for their taste. Finally, the study found that 55% of respondents had already blocked a loved one on Facebook, while only 25.8% had done the same on Instagram.
