Activists on social media circulated a video of a man beating and insulting a woman, which caused widespread outrage and demands to bring him to justice.
The activists said the Lebanese woman’s name is Ginwa Rameh Allawi, and the man in the clip is her husband, who works as an aide in the Lebanese Internal Security Forces. The video shows a wife being abused while sitting on her knees with her hands up.
Others posted photos showing bruises they said belonged to the victim. Some attributed the testimony of her father, in which he said that she had already tried to commit suicide before and miraculously survived. On Facebook, the activist wrote: “I wish that all humanitarian organizations put pressure on those who are trying to hush up this issue. Ghinwa today needs all those who support her so that her right is not lost.
Another wrote that Ghinwa is a name that has been “added to the long list of women who have been abused … Unfortunately, there is no law in Lebanon that protects or deters … Representatives, committees and proposed laws remain on the Parliament’s list.” “Each of us mothers is at risk of being on this list unless a serious law is passed to address this growing problem as soon as possible.”
