The United States of America reiterated its strong support for the joint efforts of the tripartite national dialogue mechanism in Sudan, consisting of the United Nations, the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), to resolve the country’s political crisis and achieve a civilian-led democratic transition.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement today: The United States is convinced that the process led by the United Nations Mission, the African Union and (IGAD) is the most comprehensive mechanism to reach agreement on a civilian-led transitional framework. Emphasizing that we continue to encourage all civilian and military parties in Sudan to take advantage of this process to achieve national stability.
He pointed out that Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs “Molly Fee” had called for the fulfillment of pledges to build confidence between leaders in calls to Sudan’s civilian and military leaders by ending the state of emergency and abolishing prisoners, and stressed the need for stakeholder involvement in political process to achieve rapid progress within the civilian transitional government.
