The Turkish Public Prosecutor demanded that the trial be stopped in the absence of 26 defendants regarding the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018, and that the case be transferred to Saudi Arabia.
The request states that the Ministry of Justice should be asked for its opinion on the transfer of the case to Saudi Arabia.
In the 117-page indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Asiri and Saud al-Kahtani, who were assigned to carry out the murder of Khashoggi and give the necessary instructions to the other defendants, are separately charged.
Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has prepared a second indictment against 6 Saudi fugitives related to the Khashoggi murder. The court approved the indictment, demanding aggravated life sentences for two of the defendants and up to 5 years in prison for four. Thus, the number of defendants in the case increased to 26.
