What’s New in the Latest Version of The Three Musketeers?
Alexandre Dumas’s 1844 book has been turned into at least 50 movies and TV shows worldwide, and the 30th movie is about to come out. What’s new about this version of The Three Musketeers? Martin Bourboulon, a French director, is making a new version of the story that will be a two-part tale and add a new character named Hannibal, who will be the first Black musketeer in French history. Louis Anniaba, the prince of Assinie, was real, and Hannibal is based on him.
This epic adventure duology takes a more sophisticated look at Dumas’s literary masterpiece. It follows the brave D’Artagnan as he teams up with his three loyal and dangerous musketeer friends, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, to overthrow a bad royal advisor and deal with Milady de Winter, a seductive spy. Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan is the first movie in a two-part series. It’s about the brave hero who tries to protect the Queen of France and keep France from going to war with England. The second movie, Three Musketeers: Milady, is about Milady’s plan to overthrow the crown and how she does it. Along with the movies, there have been rumors of spinoff TV shows, such as one that centers on Hannibal and shows the lesser-known tales of the real-life musketeer. That’s more for another time.
