You Are Always Welcome at Cousin’s Beach: The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2
Introduction
Lola Tung is back as Belly Conklin, the sweet girl caught between her childhood pals, brothers Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). Summer is in the air, and Lola Tung is back in her role. This season of The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime Video is an adaptation of Jenny Han’s novel trilogy of the same name; however, there will be some deviations from the novel’s plot in this season’s episodes. The storyline of It’s Not Summer Without You will serve as a general template for the second season. The happenings of the previous academic year have caused the summer to take on a significantly different character. The death of a very significant member of the family has a domino effect on everyone else’s lives, particularly Conrad, whose behavior deteriorates to the point where Belly and Jeremiah are left to clean up the mess he leaves behind. Most of the characters from the first season will be back, along with some welcome recruits, ensuring another action-packed season at Cousin’s Beach. Lola Tung as Isabelle “Belly” Conklin
Belly, short for Isabelle Conklin, is a kind and naive adolescent coming into her own and falling in love. Everyone lovingly knows her as Belly. However, she isn’t perfect and has hurt a few people’s feelings. Above all things, Belly is a caring, compassionate, and considerate person. She has been through a lot this year, especially supporting her boyfriend Conrad as his mother, Susannah, fought cancer and ultimately passed away. Last summer, she grew and had a lot of firsts, but this year she has gone through a lot. She has had a thing for Conrad ever since they were youngsters, and he has always had a thing for her, but when they eventually get together, she ends up slighting his brother Jeremiah after using him in an attempt to move on from Conrad. Even though he has always had a thing for her, she has always had a thing for Conrad. Even though Belly is still young, she has a lot of growing up to do when it comes to issues of the heart. Lola Tung’s breakthrough performance came in the film The Summer I Turned Pretty. It is currently unknown what Tung will be doing in the future. Still, in the interim, she is working toward completing her education at Carnegie Mellon in the spaces between filming seasons of the show.
Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher
Conrad Fisher is the crew’s senior member and the bunch’s golden boy. He channels a young and determined version of Leonardo DiCaprio. He is a star quarterback who carries the world’s weight on his shoulders, and he has a hard time allowing people in, particularly when he needs them the most. In the first season, Conrad has to deal with the recurrence of his mother’s cancer and the stress of keeping the secret from everyone. He alienates some of the most significant individuals in his life, including his father, Jeremiah, and Belly. His father is one of the people he alienates. In Season 2, Conrad’s loss and sadness get even worse, and despite the support of his childhood friend Belly, he ends up pushing her away, even though he loves her. This occurs even though Conrad has known Belly since they were children. Ben Kingsley and Ezra Miller were Christopher Briney’s co-stars in the recent film Daliland, where he played the role of Salvador Dali’s art gallery assistant. His next role will be as Aaron Samuels in the adaption of Mean Girls: The Musical, produced by Paramount+.
Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah Fisher
Jeremiah Fisher, the vivacious and free-spirited younger brother of Conrad Fisher, is also the best friend of Belly and her older brother Steven, who is the same age as Jeremiah. Jeremiah and Steven share the same birthday. Jeremiah’s grin is so powerful, and his demeanor so upbeat that he can get even the most reserved people to open out to him. However, he also tends to act impulsively, such as when he sets off a fireworks display to prevent Belly and Conrad from kissing, which they are almost doing. Because he also has a love for Belly, sentiments that are occasionally returned, he can’t help but feel envious of Conrad has a connection with her. Despite this, Belly cannot commit to Jeremiah because of her affection for Conrad and their shared history. Gavin Casalegno had a recurring role on an episode of The Vampire Diaries titled “Young Damon” before his appearance in “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” In addition to that, it is noteworthy that he had an eight-episode arc on Walker. Up for him is a role opposite Josh Lucas in the upcoming Queen of the Ring film.
Sean Kaufman as Steven Conklin
Steven Conklin, Belly’s snarky and feisty elder brother, graduated from high school and was on his way to Princeton after spending the summer working at the country club and romancing rich Girl Shayla (Minnie Mills). Belly was very proud of her brother. However, things will be quite different during this first summer after graduating from high school, particularly in light of Susannah’s passing and the ongoing conflict between Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. Steven believes that Belly is to blame for the growing distance between him and his longtime pals because the brothers and he were formerly really close. Another new occurrence in Steven’s life is the possibility of a rekindling of the desire that once existed between him and Belly’s closest friend, Taylor. Steven hooked up with Taylor during the summer of 2017, much to Belly’s chagrin. Before getting the role of Steven on The Summer I Turned Pretty, Sean Kaufman appeared in recurring roles on the television shows Manifest, FBI: Most Wanted, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Jackie Chung as Laurel Conklin
Laurel Conklin is the mother of Belly and Steven, and she is a neurotic author who is also a recent divorcee who is striving to rediscover herself following the breakup with her spouse. She had been Susannah’s best friend for a long time, and she was the first person Susannah confided in when she told her about the recurrence of her disease. Throughout the first season, Laurel does her best to fulfill her best friend’s hopes for a serene and picture-perfect summer while at the same time encouraging her to be honest with her about her illness. The debutante ball is where everything finally comes to a head. During the second season, Laurel is dealing with the devastating loss of her best friend, and it is safe to assume that she is not in the best mental space. Susannah was Laurel’s person; therefore, the question that needs to be asked is: who is Laurel if she does not have Susannah? Before assuming the role of Laurel Conklin, Jackie Chung appeared in reoccurring roles on Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy.
Rachel Blanchard as Susannah Fisher
Susannah Fisher is the mother of Conrad and Jeremiah, and during the summer before she passed away from cancer, she and her best friend worked hard to make the most of their remaining time together. Susannah is a force of nature and the life of the party. She has a knack for pushing people outside of their comfort zones, such as when she encourages Belly to become a debutante or when she encourages Laurel to have an affair with another novelist named Cleveland Castillo (Alfredo Narciso). She does not reveal to her sons that her cancer has returned; however, Conrad learns of this development earlier, and Jere learns of this development during the Deb Ball, which results in a great deal of drama. In Season 2, Susannah is forced to confront the unpleasant truth she had attempted to ignore. This season is expected to examine how Susannah’s fight with cancer and her eventual passing affected those closest to her. Rachel Blanchard has previously portrayed a key character on You Me Her. In addition, she appeared in episodes of Fargo, Peep Show, and Flight of the Conchords.
