The Sequel to The Flash
The Flash will be released in a few days and a sequel is already written. The second opus, on the other hand, is not written by Christina Hodson, but by screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (Aquaman). Nothing official has been announced yet, but rumors have it that there will be a return of Michael Keaton (Batman) and Shasha Calle as Supergirl.
The Director’s Take
The director of the film, Andy Mushietti, meanwhile, announced on the Discourse podcast that he would not see anyone other than Ezra Miller playing Barry Allen: “I don’t think there’s anyone who can play this character as well as him/her (…). It’s as if the character was created for him/her”.
Uncertain Future
But even if the first part is a success, the second could never be released in cinemas. DC Studios is, indeed, in full evolution since the change of director. James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) has been named head of the studio at the beginning of 2023 and has plenty of projects in mind (like Superman: Legacy or the next Creature Commandos series). And we don’t know anything about the future of the universe originally created by Zack Snyder. It is possible that the sequel to The Flash might never be made, it was already the case with Wonder Woman 3 which was canceled.
Quiet Promotion
The Flash comes out in less than a week and the interpreter of super-hero, Ezra Miller, made no promotional appearances for the feature film. He/she will make a discreet appearance only at the Los Angeles premiere on June 12, posing only for photos, without doing any interviews.
Controversy and Box Office Prospects
A process that changes compared to other films, most of the time the star principal is omnipresent to promote the feature film. But the reason behind this is the controversy the actor/actress met following the issues with the justicea source close to the star explains to: “Ezra wants the conversation to be about the movie and not about him/her”.
An idea that will not harm the prospects of the box-office of the project which expects an opening estimated at 75 million dollars. A single premiere, four days before the American release, is also planned, according to a source from Variety, the reason not being linked to the problems of the interpreter of Barry Allen, but rather to the desire “to keep secret ” the end of the movie. There version screened at CinemaCon in April had, in fact, ended abruptly without part of the final scene being revealed. You will be able to discover it on June 14, 2023, when it is released in cinemas.
