American Dustin Johnson, compatriot Harold Varner and Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell will be among the stars participating in the “Live Golf Invitational Jeddah Championship” starting next Friday at the Royal Greens Club and Stadium in King Abdullah Economic City and running through October 16th.
Johnson, McDowell and Varner were able to achieve previous successes in the Kingdom as they managed to secure the title of “Saudi Arabia International Championship Presented by the State Investment Fund” in 2019, 2020 and 2022 respectively. This can greatly contribute to their positive results in the world championships, in which 45 elite golfers from all over the world participate with them.
On Wednesday morning, the Royal Greens Club and Club hosted a press conference in which the trio took part in the presence of local, regional and international media, at which McDowell, captain of the CLix team, said: “This is a beautiful golf course, and the influence of the wind it forces you to play differently and requires extra effort. “You have to hit straight to get the most out of it. I played very well in the wind here, so I’m looking forward to doing it again at the Leaf Golf Invitational Jeddah.”
While the captain of the Four Aces, who leads the standings with four wins in six tournaments, told Johnson, “Like Graham (McDowell) said, I love the way the wind affects the competition on this court tonight and your shots should be of high quality, especially on long distance shots where the space to hit is very narrow and if you can’t do that it will be difficult for you to control the golf ball.”
“It’s very clear we want to win Leaf Golf International Jeddah and, in short, you always play to win. You have to play well so that your team can achieve positive results,” Varner said. So it’s really fun. All the players in the tournament love to compete and the team system makes it more fun.”
