The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) denied today, Wednesday, recent information about the training of former Afghan Air Force pilots to send them to Ukraine.
A Pentagon spokesman told Sputnik: “We are not aware of any plans to train Afghan pilots.
“As part of defense assistance to Ukraine, we focus on the opportunities that we can provide in a similar time frame to fight in the east and south and do not require serious preparation,” he added.
US Air Force officials say they are unaware of plans to train Afghan pilots.
A Russian military source previously said the Pentagon was recruiting Afghan pilots, noting that the exercises were taking place in California.
There is talk of airmen from the Afghan army seeking asylum in the US, with the entry of Taliban fighters into Kabul last August.
