The Pentagon announced a special fund to provide “safe and effective nuclear deterrence” in its draft 2023 defense budget that it submitted to Congress.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced explanation Pentagon web The defense budget submitted to Congress for next year is reported to be $773 billion.
That budget, he said, has earmarked “about $56.5 billion for Air Force platforms and systems, more than $40.8 billion to add nine additional warships to the Navy, and about $12.6 billion to modernize Army and Marine Corps combat vehicles.”
He added that more than $130.1 billion has been earmarked for research and development because we understand the need to increase our readiness for advanced technology, the internet, space and artificial intelligence.
Most importantly, he continued, “this budget funds the modernization of the three pillars of the nuclear triad to ensure we continue to maintain a safe and effective nuclear deterrent.”
