The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia presented the program and speakers of the second Forum of the Green Saudi Arabia Initiative. The forum, which will take place on November 11-12, 2022 on the sidelines of the COP27 conference in Sharm El Sheikh, will bring together a group of opinion leaders and climate experts to discuss the progress made over the past year; This demonstrates the commitment and effective contribution of the Kingdom in the field of combating climate change in order to achieve the slogan “From ambition to action”.
The first day of the forum will be dedicated to the green transition journey to the Kingdom. The sessions will highlight the Kingdom’s multifaceted and interdisciplinary approach to reducing carbon emissions. Discussions focus on renewable energy, clean hydrogen production and the Kingdom’s pioneering efforts to develop a circular carbon economy.
Afforestation and environmental protection in the Kingdom will be one of the highlights of the first day. In 2021, the Kingdom has committed itself to the goal of planting 10 billion trees across the country and planting 450 million trees by 2030. The Saudi Arabia Green Initiative 2022 forum will outline Saudi Arabia’s plans to achieve this goal in a sustainable way and preserve the country’s unique biodiversity.
As for the second day of the forum, it will track the efforts required by all sectors of society to achieve a sustainable future for all. Discussions will focus on the need for international cooperation on climate change, the development of the green finance sector, and the importance of private sector participation. Afternoon sessions focus on highlighting the role of youth in the fight against climate change, embodying the Kingdom’s approach to activating the role of all sectors of society in improving the quality of life and protecting future generations.
