A young American soldier has been sharing with 25 users of the Discord forum secret Pentagon information regarding files very important to Washington for several years. secret was only revealed recently after one member shared this information elsewhere on the internet Thug Shaker Central, the name of this Discord forum created in 2020 should never have been known grand public. It was launched, like thousands of others, in the midst of a pandemic to help a group of virtual friends pass the time during this difficult time. But that all changed when Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old American soldier, began sharing confidential information.
Young men are attracted to guns
The 25 users of this Discord, Americans and others from around the world, received secret data from the Pentagon that they are clearly not supposed to know. So it is with those who are on invasion Russians in Ukraine with plans battlefield details. Information about Russia’s planned purchases of weapons in Egypt. Or even about US spying on countries that are considered allies. Forum users, mostly men who are fond of firearms, believers and interested in military affairs, had to read very long texts posted by a young American after he himself copied them onto main. According to the Washington Post, whoever called himself OG insisted that everyone be well-focused when reading this information, including many acronyms and strange jargon common to secret documents. Seeing that the task was getting more difficult, he decided to share entire images of the documents to make it easier for them. It becomes almost uplifting for Internet users who have the impression that they belong to a privileged class. A young participant explains to our colleagues that he admires their leader’s ability to foresee events before they happen: “I got the impression that I was above everyone and knew something that they did not know. However, OG has a dark side. The Washington Post was able to locate one of his videos in which he went to a shooting range and “yelled a series of racist and anti-Semitic slurs at the camera, then fired several bullets at the target.” However, no one questions cause son leadership. So the story could go on for quite some time. But in February last year, one of the teenage users posted several dozen photos on another Discord forum. Then we started to see this top secret information circulating all over the Internet, and that’s when the American authorities got worried. Ministry justice arrested Jack Teixeira in connection with son investigation of “alleged unauthorized removal, storage and transmission of classified information relating to national defense”. This case raises the question of protection secret data. Indeed, it is necessary to find a reasonable balance between the access of a certain number of people to information (otherwise it is useless) and the preservation secret.
A new kind of leak
But beyond that, the identity of the mysterious OG raises questions. As quoted by Slate, Charlie Stevenson, a lecturer in the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, explains that he has listed several types of leaks in the past. They came from three sources: “Administration officials throwing trial balloons, losing interagency battles, wanting to rally fellow critics, and whistleblowers looking to expose horrific acts. “According to him, now it is necessary to reckon with a new type of personality: “Pont, who wants to demonstrate that he knows everything.”
