The Salvadoran Football Association has condemned the murder of a referee who was brutally attacked while managing a match last weekend in the capital, San Salvador.
The federation said in a statement on Monday that it “condemns and rejects the physical attack” on referee José Arnoldo Amaya, 63, “who claims to be a fan and a player during a match he refereed at Toluca Stadium in San Salvador” . Amaya, a member of the National Association of Football Referees in El Salvador, was brutally attacked and taken to hospital where he died from his injuries. The police have not yet established the details of the incident and are still looking for the perpetrators. Amaya has been a referee for city, school and amateur league matches in this Central American country for 20 years.
