The Expanding Role of Tencent in the Gaming Business
The role that Tencent plays in the gaming business is expected to expand in the near future. The business in China plans to acquire the majority shareholder holding in Techland, the company that developed Dying Light.
Pawel Marchewka Announces Partnership with Tencent
Pawel Marchewka, the creator of Techland, shared the news in a Post published on the company’s website.
“Today I am happy to announce the partnership with Tencent, who are in the process of becoming Techland’s majority shareholder,” Marchewka said. “I am looking forward to working with Tencent.”
Paving the Way for Progress and Creativity
The formation of a partnership with Tencent will make it possible for us to make rapid progress toward realizing our vision for our games. We have selected a partner who has teamed with some of the best video game companies in the world, assisted them in reaching new heights, and done so while respecting the methods in which they go about their business.
Even though Tencent will become the company’s primary stakeholder, Marchewka stated that the studio will keep “full ownership” of its intellectual properties (IPs). In addition, Techland promises to “maintain creative freedom” and to “continue to operate in the way that we believe is right.”
The Future of Techland
Techland is developing an open-world, fantasy-action role-playing game (RPG). There is currently no schedule for the release of the game.
