Swiss police said five French nationals jumped from the balcony of an apartment in West Montreux on Thursday morning, killing four and injuring a fifth.
Three adults and a child were killed and a teenager seriously injured after falling from a seven-story apartment building in the lakeside town of Montreux, Swiss police said.
He added that all of the victims were French nationals and members of a family.
Police stated that before the incident, two police officers knocked on the door of an apartment and identified themselves, adding, “They left the scene because they could not reach the potential residents.”
And he continued, “Meanwhile, an eyewitness called security to report that people had fallen from the balcony of an apartment building.”
Authorities confirmed that an investigation has been launched “to establish the precise circumstances and causes of this tragedy”, emphasizing that the presence of another person in the apartment at the time of the incident could be excluded at this stage of the investigation.
Regional police spokesman Alexander Bessens told the Associated Press that he could not immediately confirm reports in the Swiss press that five people had jumped from a building.
Pesins added that they were found outside a building near the city’s famous Barriere Casino at around 7:00 am on Thursday morning.
