It looks like the US midterm elections could see a shift in the vote in favor of the Democratic Party in the coming hours, especially for the House of Representatives, despite the Republican advance.
The Edison Statistics Center said Democrats won 203 seats in Parliament today, compared to 211 for Republicans so far, while 218 seats are needed to win a majority in the House of Representatives.
The Associated Press reported that the number of Democratic seats had increased to 200.
And the elders?
As far as the Senate is concerned, there is a fierce race going on, and the two parties are tied so far: each has 49 seats, while the majority needs 51 seats.
In the most recent event, Democrat and former astronaut Mark Kelly won a seat in the Arizona Senate by defeating Republican challenger Blake Masters, with seats in Nevada and Georgia yet to be determined.
While a number of observers have pointed out that the Democratic Party, to which President Joe Biden belongs, is only one place away from retaining control of the Senate with this recent victory.
Punitive Vote
On Tuesday, Americans went to the polls to upgrade all members of the House of Representatives to 435 seats, a third of the Senate to 35, and 36 state governors.
Whereas midterm elections, organized two years after a presidential election, often represent “punitive votes” for an existing administration in the United States!
After a fierce bipartisan blue-red campaign focused on inflation and rising prices, as well as fuel, abortion and other issues, Republicans were reportedly confident that they would deprive Biden of his majority in Congress, especially as his popularity was declining.
But the Democratic Party managed to cut its losses to some extent, better than expected, and prevented former President Donald Trump from creating a “big wave” in Congress.
