Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has come up with a surprise by reversing his earlier decision to stage the African Champions League final in one match and return to home-and-away play.
Motsebe told the South African Editors’ Forum in Parktown, Johannesburg, according to Day 7, that CAF would reverse its 2018 decision to host the African Champions League and Confederation Cup finals in the same country, following the events leading up to the match between Al Ahly and Moroccan Widad in the final of the tournament in its latest version.
“The final match, which will be played in two matches at home and abroad, guarantees fairness towards rivals, emphasizing that this will not happen again from 2023,” the CAF president added. Motsebe explained that former Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane could lead the South African national team in the future.
Musimani left Al Ahli training on June 13, after Red Castle management made the decision to terminate the South African coach’s contract after he went through a tour full of tournaments.
Motsebe said: “I hope Mosimane will coach the South African national team, he is my favorite coach and I love him. He will always have a special place in my heart and I will also ask the Mocepe Foundation to pay his salary in this case. He deserves the big salary he is expected to receive.” South African coach Pitso Mosimane, a former manager of Al Ahly club, criticized the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the African Champions League final in the latest edition, which took place in Morocco. Al Ahli lost the Champions League final title in the final against Wydad 2–0 in a match played at the Mohamed V complex in Casablanca on 30 May.
