New British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged to work day and night to help people and solve all the problems his country is facing. Sunak, the first prime minister of Indian origin, said he would seek to represent all currents of the Conservative Party in his new government. Yesterday, the 1922 Conservative Party committee announced that Rishi Sunak would become leader of the new party and become the new prime minister. And Sunak’s only competitor, Benny Mordaunt, announced yesterday that she had withdrawn her candidacy in the party’s internal struggle for office, highlighting the party’s prowess and continued unity. Sunak, the grandson of immigrants of Indian origin, who went through the usual path of the British elite, a wealthy former banker, will become the first non-white prime minister of Great Britain. A new outreach to Downing Street began last Thursday after Liz Terrace stepped down after only 44 days in office. And in early September, she was elected by members of the Conservative Party against Sunak. “The UK is a great country, but we are facing a deep economic crisis,” wrote the former banker, who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2019 until July last year.
