“During the conversation, Steinmeier said to Salome Zurabishvili… I am grateful for your strong and clear voice for freedom and democracy… Georgians are choosing the path to Europe,” German presidential spokeswoman Serstein Gamelen said on Twitter. .
The spokeswoman quoted the president as saying: “Germany is supporting Georgia on the European path… and this path includes freedom of the press and civil society.”
“Georgia appreciates the support expressed today by my German colleague for the path of European integration of Georgia and the dedication of the Georgian people,” Salome Zurabishvili wrote on Twitter.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has been actively pursuing closer relations with the West and has been critical of the government in Tbilisi, but her powers are limited.
