Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, took part in a sports march organized by the Qatar Foundation this morning in Education City in cooperation with Qatar Charity. The march was attended by HE Sheikha Hind bin Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, HE Sheikh Joan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, and a number of community members.
As part of the Day of Sports in sister country Qatar this year, the Qatar Foundation organized the Education City triathlon, which included swimming, cycling and running. To raise awareness of the sport and encourage more people to take up the sport, adults and children competed in a 100m swim triathlon, followed by a 4km bike race and culminated in a 1.5km race. running race A number of participants for the first time.
Fatima Al-Mohannadi, who participated in the Qatar Foundation solidarity march, said: “My heart was very heavy because of the painful scenes we saw last week of the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria and the injured, as I am not sure of my participation in any sporting events until I found out that the Qatar Foundation organized this solidarity march. It was the perfect way for me to celebrate Sports Day this year and use it as an opportunity to show our support to the victims in Turkey and Syria.”
Regarding the importance of the triathlon event, Brik Zayed El Din, one of the triathlon participants, said: “Sports Day gave me the opportunity to participate in this sporting event with its three elements, and get to know it better. The Qatar Foundation is making a lot of efforts to encourage all members of society to take up sports.” In addition, the Qatar Foundation, in partnership with the Qatar Olympic Committee as the main partner, organized a number of sporting events in Education City, in which members of the community actively participated.
The city’s educational stadium was also designated as a women’s and girls’ only sporting event, as it hosted the semi-final and final matches of the Women’s and Girls’ Football Championship. The Education City Stadium also witnessed a large number of functional fitness challenges that included burpees, rock climbing and others, in addition to the use of sports equipment such as rowing machines and medicine ball passing. The goal is to get to the finish line as quickly as possible.
The Qatar Foundation is contributing to the creation of a social sports heritage accessible to all ages and abilities, as a continuation of the great success achieved by the State of Qatar at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar in terms of ensuring easy access for all social groups, especially since the role sport is about improving the way of life of various members of society, as well as its ability to provide the necessary impetus to promote a culture of easy access and empowerment of others, which is a widely influential public value.
As part of the National Sports Day activities, Qatar Foundation Schools, operating under the auspices of pre-university education at the institution, organized a group of active sports events reflecting the unique skills and interests of students in the Green Zone Education City, where Tariq bin Ziyad School organized a series of popular games, while students from the Qatar Academy of Science and Technology tested their ability to perform the Parham Jump, and students from the Qatar Academy demonstrated their jiu-jitsu skills to the leaders.
