What is Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse?
Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, a visually stunning 2018 animated film that garnered 139 nominations in various categories and won 82 awards, including the Oscar for Best Animation. In this new movie, one finds Miles Morales and his friend Gwen Stacy meeting the Spider-Society (a group made up of Spider-Man from different dimensions). They come to warn him that a dangerous menace menaces the multiverse. However, the methods used by their leader Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099), do not please our hero. A conflict breaks out. This feature film is only the first part of a new adventure, the second half of which will be released in 2024. This time, director Bob Persichetti (who is going to be a producer) has left his place to Joaquim Dos Santos (The Legend of Korra).
Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse: what does the press think?
Much like the first Into the Spider-Verse movie, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is so far unanimous. On Metacritic, it gets 87/100, just like its predecessor. On Rotten Tomatoes, it does just as well with a 95/100. Once again, its style has blown everyone away. There is talk of an “exhilarating stylistic experimentation” that pays homage to comics at Slant Magazine. The screenplay is no exception, as the word that comes up most often is “pulsating”. However, as explained above, the feature film is in two parts, which has frustrated many critics impatient for a conclusion. Finally, with the myriad of characters presented and the action that jumps from dimension to dimension, we will have to hang on according to them.
