South Korean Prime Minister Han Duk-soo announced on Monday that the official death toll had risen to 154 as a result of a stampede during Halloween celebrations in the capital Seoul on Saturday evening.
Khan promised a thorough investigation into the incident.
In statements at the start of the televised meeting, he said the government would make the necessary changes to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
Dozens, mostly young people, were killed when a crowd surged into narrow streets in Seoul’s Itaewon district during a Halloween celebration on Saturday night. The government declared public mourning.
