The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea announced a ban on the export of 77 types of products that can be used for the development and production of satellites to the northern neighbor through third parties.
In a statement, the ministry indicated that it had informed the countries concerned about the ban and provided them with a list of prohibited products.
The State Department warned that “the export of goods on this list to North Korea through third countries will be prohibited.” The ministry said that they had transferred this list to other countries.
The move is intended to re-focus the world’s attention on the need to prevent North Korea from obtaining such strategic materials that could be used to manufacture satellites and surveillance devices.
Seoul also decided to impose additional independent sanctions on 4 people and 6 organizations “involved in Pyongyang’s missile and nuclear programs and trying to evade international sanctions.”
Notably, in 2021, Pyongyang began developing a military reconnaissance satellite as part of its defense development plan, and the project is scheduled to be completed next April.
