The Solar Opposites Are Back: A Guide to the Cast and Characters
The long-awaited return of The Solar Opposites is just around the corner, and fans are eager to fill the void left by Rick and Morty. Since its debut on Hulu in July 2022, this adult animated sitcom about aliens adjusting to life on Earth has become an instant smash. Whether you’re new to mature animated comedies or a longtime lover of adult animation, here’s a helpful guide to the cast and characters before the start of Season 4 on Monday, August 14, 2023.
Dan Stevens as Korvo
As the “straight man” of the group and the narrator, Korvo is the ensemble cast’s main character. After a meteor destroyed their home planet of Shlorp, Korvo, his partner Terry, and their two replicants fled to Earth. Despite his displeasure with the backwardness of the planet and its inhabitants, Korvo occasionally falls for the exoticism of Earth’s traditions. In Season 5, Dan Stevens takes over the role of Korvo as narrator.
Thomas Middleditch as Terry
Known for playing brilliant characters, Thomas Middleditch’s portrayal of Terry, Korvo’s partner, is a welcome change of pace. Terry’s relationship with Korvo remains obscured, but he contributes his expertise on the Pupa, a creature resembling a tadpole that is the group’s responsibility. Terry has become accustomed to life on Earth, while Korvo continues to search for ways to escape the planet.
Sean Giambrone as Yumyulack
Sean Giambrone, known for his role in The Goldbergs, plays Yumyulack, a young replicant who emulates Korvo. Yumyulack is a borderline sociopath, constantly thinking of constructing and using new weapons on humans. Despite attending school and trying to act like a human child, Yumyulack’s dark tendencies shine through.
Mary Mack as Jesse
Mary Mack brings Jesse, Terry’s replicant, to life. Jesse adapts to Earth quickly, although she retains some youthful naivety. Despite facing adversity and being disliked by humans, Jesse maintains an optimistic attitude and desires acceptance.
Sagan McMahan as The Pupa
The Pupa may seem innocent and lovable, but its role in the story can alter the course of Earth’s history. The Pupa holds the complete history of Planet Shlorp, and when it reaches maturity, it will devour Earth and recreate it in the image of Shlorp. The character continues to develop, providing memorable moments throughout the show.
Tiffany Haddish as Aisha
Tiffany Haddish lends her voice to Aisha, the artificial intelligence aboard the family ship. Aisha is caustic and often mocks the Solar Opposites, highlighting their ineptitude. She represents the perfectionist mentality of the Schlorp family.
With Season 4 just around the corner, fans of The Solar Opposites can look forward to more dark comedy high jinks and the development of these beloved characters. Make sure to catch the new season on Hulu to see what the future holds for Korvo, Terry, Yumyulack, Jesse, The Pupa, and Aisha.
