Dutch police said Sunday at least six people were killed in an accident when a truck crashed into a street barbecue in the southern city of New Bayerland. Police said they were investigating the accident, which happened around 1900 local time (1700 GMT), about 30km south of Rotterdam. “The truck veered off the road and crashed into the party,” police spokeswoman Elaine Mastwick told local radio station Rheinmond.
The spokeswoman clarified that the driver is a Spanish citizen, aged 46, and said he was immediately tested for a breathalyzer and found negative, noting that the police are “currently looking into all hypotheses.” The images, published by Rheinmond TV and local media sites, show a heavy truck belonging to a Spanish transport company among broken tables in a park in a residential area.
