The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the holding of a closed meeting of the UN Security Council today to discuss the situation in Palestine. Kharhiyya said in a statement: “The convening of this meeting was prompted by a request for international protection for the Palestinian people, in light of yesterday’s aggression perpetrated by the Israeli occupying forces against the city of Jenin and that the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip subjected to all-out aggression and unjust siege, in addition to unilateral illegal measures including land confiscation and settlement, demolition of Palestinian houses and structures, extrajudicial executions and attacks on holy sites.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed that these measures create risks in the arena of conflict and opportunities for the implementation of the principle of a two-state solution and the revival of the peace process, security and stability in the region.
