German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the conflict in Ukraine could continue for a long time.
“We have to be prepared for this to go on for a long time,” Schultz told reporters on Monday. “Even after the end of the war, not everything will return to normal immediately. But we must not stop efforts to end it.”
Schultz added: “We must understand that this terrible war and its consequences will worry us for a long time to come. We still have a long time to clear the rubble.”
The German Chancellor stressed that Western countries will continue to support Ukraine, adding that “Ukraine must be able to defend its territorial integrity and independence.”
In previous statements, Schultz expected the conflict to continue for a long time, noting that it would be difficult to make any predictions about the course of the fighting afterward.
