Police and prosecutors said on Sunday that a 30-year-old woman died from injuries sustained in a knife attack on students on the campus of a German university.
The woman is an assistant professor who was attending a seminar at the Hamm-Lipstadt University of Applied Sciences when the attack took place on Friday.
Two other young women and a young man were injured in the attack before the students were able to control the attacker.
Yesterday, Saturday, the 34-year-old suspect was transferred to a mental health center after prosecutors said he was likely suffering from schizophrenia.
And on Sunday, the university announced in a statement posted on its website that it had taken the news of the patient’s death “with great sadness”.
Preparations are being completed for the farewell ceremony scheduled for tomorrow, on Monday.
According to prosecutors, the suspect was a university student and aimed two knives at the victims.
A 22-year-old student was stabbed eight times in the abdomen, requiring emergency surgery and is believed to be no longer life-threatening, while the other two victims, a 22-year-old boy and a girl, suffered less serious injuries.
On Friday, the suspect was released from a psychiatric hospital where he had been transferred after a suicide attempt, according to prosecutors.
