The Kingdom expressed its deep concern that the International Atomic Energy Agency indicated in its reports on verification work under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement in Iran that it did not fully comply with its obligations under the agreement and lacked transparency, which posed a threat to the non-proliferation regime and an obstacle to the achievement of the purposes of the Charter of the United Nations and its principles relating to the maintenance of international peace and security, reaffirming its support in this regard for all international efforts aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and endangering the region and the world Tenth Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), held at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
He explained that, based on the Kingdom’s deep conviction that peaceful cooperation among nations is one of the main measures to achieve prosperity, prosperity and stability in the world, it pays great attention to the nuclear non-proliferation regime, since this treaty is its cornerstone, leading the universality of the treaty and the full implementation of its provisions aimed at ridding the world of nuclear weapons, and reiterated the importance of the commitment of states to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, emphasizing the role of the United Nations General Assembly, calling on non-participating states to quickly accede to it and put all its nuclear facilities under the comprehensive safeguards system of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Ambassador Al-Wazel added: “The liberation of the Middle East from nuclear weapons is a collective responsibility at the international level, and the 1995 resolution on the Middle East is an integral part of other decisions that led to the indefinite extension of the decision of the Treaty, and in this context the resolution on the Middle East is valid. Pending its implementation and the full achievement of its objectives, he expressed the Kingdom’s regret at the failure to hold the 2012 conference envisaged by the Middle East Action Plan in the Final Document of the 2010 Review Conference, which is a violation of the review process and agreed commitments, Noting that this decision is one of the solutions expected to be put into action by the international community in the light of the failure of other international structures, especially the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action aimed at ending Iran’s threatening practices against non-racist proliferation in the region, as well as the failure to achieve the universality of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons with Israel’s continued refusal to accede to it.
He stressed the need to counter and combat the spread of nuclear weapons in the Middle East, as the threat is not limited to the region but to the entire world.
