Liverpool’s top scorer Mohamed Salah has said he doesn’t know if he can agree to signing a new contract with his team. He stressed that negotiations with the club of the English Premier League are not only about money.
The Premier League top scorer is leading Liverpool in their quest to win an unprecedented four titles this season for the first time since he joined the team in 2017 from Roma.
The Egyptian international has been in talks with Liverpool to extend his contract for some time but has yet to come to a decision to allow talks with his current contract expiring next season, but Salah confirms the current contention is not about money.
“I don’t know, I have one year left on my contract,” he told 44.2 of his confidence to stay at Anfield for years to come. I think the fans know what I want, but the contract is not about money at all. So I don’t know and can’t tell you exactly what it is.
The 29-year-old confirmed that he had always wanted to stay at Liverpool and explained: “Yes.” This club means a lot to me, I enjoyed football here more than anywhere else, I gave everything for the club and everyone watched it.
“I’ve had a lot of great moments here, winning trophies and scoring goals and also winning individual titles,” he added. It’s like my family.
The Egyptian captain has insisted he is not worried about starting the last year of his Liverpool contract without a decision to renew it.
I don’t worry, he said, I don’t allow myself to worry about anything. The season is not over yet, so let’s finish it the best we can, that’s the most important thing, and then last year we’ll see what happens.
Regarding what was reported about his departure from the club this summer in the event that an agreement is not reached regarding the extension of his contract, Salah confirmed that he fully expects to remain at Liverpool next season, regardless of the negotiations.
And he said: Yes, I think so, but he added jokingly: But if they want me to leave, that’s another matter. Liverpool have always made it clear they want Salah to stay.
Salah solidified his lead in the Premier League top scorer rankings with 22 goals, five goals behind Tottenham Hotspur’s South Korean striker Son Heung-min thanks to a brace against Manchester United on Tuesday.
