Head of the Religious Council of Muslims of Russia, Mufti Albert Karganov, said that Russia’s decision to recognize the independence of the Lugansk and Donetsk republics was justified and was to protect people’s lives.
Mufti Albert Karganov emphasized that Russian Muslims took this decision with understanding.
I think that the decision to recognize the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics is justified. The attitude of Russia, which recognizes the two republics, is not to harm someone, but so that people in Donbass do not die,” he told RIA Novosti.
“If the negotiations are not successful, you have to take decisions, because the people are waiting,” he explained, explaining that this decision “may not be easy, but taking into account the views of society, experts and the Russian Security Council, the decision to recognize the independence of the two republics was made.”
Noting that Russia’s previous recognition of Crimea (as part of Russia) “made it possible to save the people of the republic,” he said, “I have seen bandits in Crimea threatening believers, Orthodox Christians and Muslims.”
